BE LIKE MIIKKA
This set was created for a travelling exhibition, the slapshot tour, celebrating the start of the NHL season after its one year absence due to a player strike. A lot of artists, including Marok, Bob Kronbauer, Reid van Renesse, Heidi Hartwig and others were given a list of goons that have graced the sport of (ice) hockey in the past and was asked to make something in honour of one of them. On the list was Miikka Kiprusoff, Calgary Flames and Finnish national goalie who in the previous year had an all time NHL high saves avarage and guided his team to the stanley cup play-offs. The ultimate blue collar role model.
The piece is a set of imaginary merchandising made out of solid wood. It's a typical Finnish style lunch box and thermos flask with an image of the man himself, the hero, the inspirator, the legend, number 34.
